Civic & Citizenship
Services
HIC’s Civic & Citizenship Services is designed to assist immigrant and refugees to prepare and submit “do-it-yourself” immigration petitions and other confusing government forms. We offer citizenship and naturalization preparation classes for those preparing to take the citizenship test. This includes reading and writing prep tests offered online and in-person for free.
Language Acquisition Programs
We offer one-on-one tutoring which allows the student to match with one instructor. Group classes offer English course instructions to groups of 10 to 12 students at a time.
Trauma & Cultural
Counseling
HIC provides free mental health services to immigrants and refugees who have experienced trauma. HIC hopes to reduce the deep disparities that remain when it comes to access to mental health services for immigrants and minorities.
Direct Assistance & Case Management Program
Clients can receive direct help and/or are connected to existent resources in the community. Clients can then enroll in other programs such as our language acquisition program as a beginning of a permanent solution for their struggles. From June until December 2021, 503 individuals have sought help through this program.
Cultural Diversity and Integration Programs
Through a variety of education material including, weekly studio produced videos, cultural discovery, and exchange events, this program help immigrants integrate into the United States. The second part of the program is to help immigrants and refugees revitalize and preserve their own cultural heritage while embracing their new American culture.
Free Educational Counseling & Placement
HIC offers free educational counseling and placement to clients interested in pursuing higher education. HIC also has a 5-week Financial Education course in partnership with Midland Latino CDC. This program is available and (as for all our programs) free to all clients. These programs are offered virtually and in-person.
